Will Garcia, CFI
In 2019, I decided to start learning to fly after a friend a started taking flying lessons out of Montgomery Field (KMYF). I had always been curious about learning to fly but never knew how to start. I always thought that it was something that would forever be out of reach for someone like myself. On a whim, I asked my friend what it took for him to be able to do what he was doing, and to my surprise, he responded, “Come meet my flight instructor tomorrow.”
My discovery flight the next day proved to me that flying an airplane was indeed within my reach. This kicked off a flight training journey which spanned the entire West Coast of the United States. As I pursued my certificates and ratings through flying clubs and academic programs, I flew in and out of airports all over California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. These experiences have allowed me to grow the skills and knowledge needed to fly in complex airspace and different types of weather. Most importantly, my journey has given me the perspective to apply realistic training goals as stepping stones to build my students into safe and proficient pilots.
